Our Programs

Our programs are designed to meet the emotional and practical needs of the Blind and Visually Impaired community. IB West continues to provide client-centered individualized instruction to the blind, incorporating the most up-to-date techniques and equipment.
Each year, our counselors log over 6,000 hours of instruction time and work with more than 200 clients throughout our ten-county service area.
All of Independence for the Blind of West Florida services are geared toward assisting the blind toward independence to whatever level is possible and desired by the individual. Services include but are not limited to the following:

Adult Vocation Rehabilitation
Assists individuals who have recently lost their eyesight or are experiencing a decline in vision and need to learn how to adapt for work.

Older Blind Program
This program assists blind and visually impaired individuals in relearning essential life skills. These skills consist of .. .

Visually Impaired Program (VIP)
Assists Visually Impaired children in learning independence, adaptive technology, socialization skills, and improving self-esteem.

Transition Program
Teaches Visually Impaired teens the tools to be independent, prepare for college, and enter the workforce.

Orientation and Mobility
Independence in travel is the key to enjoying a full and active life. Individuals are taught to safely and confidently regain their travel independence by using a cane to navigate through their home and community safely, to use public transportation, and to organize their home and personal spaces to avoid accidents.

Skill Training
Teaches daily-living, communications/braille, assistive devices/iPhone & iPad, job readiness, and socialization training.

Assessments and Counseling
Assists individuals (and their families) in identifying individual needs and training possibilities.
