Ms. Debra A. Thompson, a native of St. Petersburg, FL, moved to Pensacola in 1982.  She was elected to the Pensacola City Council in May 1999 and was the first female and African-American to be elected as an At Large Representative.  Debra has served on the board of Independence for the Blind since 2000 and has served in the capacity of Board President, Vice President and currently serves as secretary.  She was appointed to the Florida Rehabilitation Council (FRC) in 2005 by Governor Jeb Bush.  She has served as second vice Chair for the council and currently serves as first vice chair and Chair of the Evaluation Committee.  Ms.  Thompson is interested in working with our young people and bringing new job opportunities to our community, especially those with disabilities.   She is always interested in finding new ways to improve the quality of life for every citizen.
